MT5 import data and timezone conversion

Post by jechris »

Hi, I have two questions:

1:when exporting tick data, (to import in mt5 custom symbols) Should i select the timezone and DST of my broker? Or leave timezone and DST settings blank?

2: If i have earlier imported tick data from jan 2010 to jan2021 to a custom symbol and want to update the symbol to curent date. Can i simply import tick data from jan2021 till today? Or do i need to import the whole file again from jan2010 till today?

cheers

Hi Jechris,

To answer your questions:

1) This is really up to you and what time-zone you would like to work in. If you intend to go live with the broker you are testing on, it probably makes much more sense to export with your broker's time-zone. This means all your EA settings remain the same when you go live.
Please see this link for some further useful information about time-zones (it was written for MT4 but some information also applies to MT5).

2) I believe MT5 allows you to just import the delta/latest information and then overrides any overlap.

Hope this helps.
