imported data does not match historical

Post by master_dude »

first of thank you for a great service! tickstory makes it much easier to focus your enegergies on strategy development!

the problem i have concerning the most recent import of data i had. once i had imported the data and compared it to historical charts it was way off. not even close to the price movements i was expecting to see. also the periods were wrong. i was importing EURUSD from jan 2001 up until today, but once opening mt4 i had data from mid 2003 to mid 2014. and the price movements of this period also do not match the actual price movement in the EURUSD.

any idea what went wrong? ck story lite shows the me the correct time period in the start and end date columns, but it does show this message in the log at beginning:

(im translating this from german)

error during downloading: the remoteserver gave the following error (404): not found. and then followed by url to dukascopy server.

im confused (and yes true i did not do this many times) and dont understand why it wants to download from dukascopy? i already did this with tickdatadownloader....?

my procedure is to use TickDataDownloader to download the data and then place it in the correct folder in Tickstorys directory. Then I export to Mt4 and open MT4 via the Tickstory program.

I am on a windows 7 professional 64 bit with the most recent version of mt4 and tickstory.

would be really great if someone could give me some feedback....

Hi Master_dude,

Let's try to tackle one problem at a time. First step is to ensure you resolve this "404" error you are getting. Go to File->Settings and in the Dukascopy Datasource tab and click the "Test" button. If this is not successful, there is something wrong with your internet connection that you will need to resolve before you can download data.
Once this is resolved, whatever Dukascopy Store Folder you have selected, the data will reside in this location. I am not sure how TickDataDownloader stores data, but Tickstory stores data in Dukascopy's native highly-compressed binary format. If the data already exists, Tickstory will simply use it. If not, it will download it.
Regarding your issue with your exported date ranges - make sure you are not connected to your broker, otherwise it is likely that the broker will override your exported data.

Hope this helps.

thanks for your reply! i realised the problem lies with dukascopy. for some reason i couldn't get data from mid 2003. this worked out for me now as i was ok with the shorter period, but i still haven't figured out why this data was unavailable...

thanks again you guys are great!

Hi Master_dude - glad to hear you resolved it. Yes, you need to select a date within the available range. Here is a list of valid date ranges for each symbol:
