Replacing MT4 hst files

Post by dhana108 »

Hi Guys,

Firstly- From all I have seen so far Tickstory is great software and well designed! Well done!

Now a question:

I want to replace my MT4 hst files with accurate hst files generated by Tickstory - so I can have good data when I scroll back during realtime (demo or actual) trading or run backtests outside the strategy tester. I am not concerned at present with generating fxt files for using the strategy backtester.

I have attempted this - and sometimes I get lucky! However it is not straight forward, since MT4 can sometimes overwrite or even ignore the new hst files, unless they are set temporarily as read only. Sometimes I am successful and then MT4 treats the hst file as a normal file which can be updated with the latest current price data - however sometimes if I can do a backward search on some historical date (by entering carriage return and entering a specific date) and it cannot find the data.

Do you have any tips on this?? Can you explain clearly how MT4 handles and updates the hst files?

Also - it would be very helpful to have a step by step procedure to follow - which I can be sure works. is that possible? or available somewhere?

I have not found anything satisfactory by searching the web- or even looking at the MT4 user guides. Hopefully you can enlighten me on these questions.

Many thanks

Peter

Hi;
I have the same problem too, because the price is not same in backtest to (hst) Graphics..
How I check the EA if the price is not the same?
Why I have 5 digits? in hst (0.0000) if should be 6 digits(0.00000)

Hi Miguelacho,

Is your broker 4 digits? Can you go to the "EURUSD" symbol in the Market Watch, right-click it and display "Specification". How many digits is the symbol?
It looks like that the data shown in the History Center is simply being rounded to 4 decimals (i.e. 1.42868 is displayed as 1.4287).

Thanks.

Hi Miguelacho,

You need to select a broker that utilises 5 digits. Since your broker is using 4 digits, all information (charts, etc) are being displayed in 4 digits.
(Note that even though you export data from Tickstory as 5 digits, this will not change the way MT4 displays charts & data).

Hope this helps.

Hi Miguelacho,

Can I clarify - what product have you used to generate the Excel file you have shown? We have cross-checked this price in Tickstory and it matches (just as in your screenshot), so there is no problem there as far as we can see.

Secondly, the two screenshots you have shown are from two different accounts. As far as I can see, the original screenshot you have shown clearly shows 4 digits for your MT4's Market Watch->EURUSD->"Specification" (note also that all your Market Watch prices are in 4 digits). The latest screenshot shows 5 digits, which presumably means that if you try to view the data in the History Center with this account, it should show all 5 digits (note how your Market Watch prices are in 5 digits). At this stage, there is nothing to suggest that is anything but a display issue relating to the broker's digits.

Also, please note that Tick Data Downloader does not export data to MT4 as far as I'm aware, so I'm a little confused about the comparison.

Regards.

:D SOLVED
Sorry, I write bad because my from is Venezuela. My English is bad.
I hope this work in the future for others.
I don't connect this mt4 never, Because I fear for the history demo rewrite.
this is the cause I have 4 Digits! Just connecting to the broker change to 5 digits.
star again to zero.
