Tickstory

Hi everyone,
I'm at a complete loss here, I have been trying to get my backtests to work for two full days and still can't work out where the problem is.

I have purchased the full version of tickstory yesterday, so that I could launch metatrader through tickstory but it hasn't changed the source of my problem.

I have downloaded the tickdata and exported it to my data folder (tester/history for .fxt files and history/activtrades-demo for my .hst files, however once I launch the strategy tester via Tickstory, I get the following error message:

Now the obvious solution for me, was to go to tester/history and deselect "read-only" from the properties of the USDJPY60_0.fxt file.

I then tried to run the exact same backtest and the error message changes to:

2015.12.22 11:08:19.361 TestGenerator: no history data 'USDJPY60' from 2015.12.21 to 2015.12.01

And when I go back to tester/history and check my USDJPY60_0.fxt file, it now has 0 bytes. So it seems to have been overwritten with nothing in the process of the backtest?? Has this happened to anyone before?

Hi Cupidalaska,

The message you are getting about the file being "read-only" is not an error but merely a notification. You can ignore this message and everything should work fine. You should leave your files as read-only.

Secondly, if you are using MT4 Build 940 (see Help->About in MT4), the recommendation at this stage is to roll-back to Build 910 due to show-stopper bugs in the MT4 strategy tester in later versions. I have downloaded the setup file for build 910, however once it's installed and go into the help/about tab it says build 940
Am I missing something here? Does it automatically update to the latest version?

I have exactly the same issue with the fxt files being "read only". However my backtest gives me a n/a quality when they are read only. I assume this is beacuse Tickstory is not launching MT 4 correctly.

MT 4 upgraded to 940 and I reverted back to 910. I can see the version as 910 in "About". However when launching MT 4 I still get a no suitable launcher found for MT4.

Any help would be appreciated ?

Check out the FAQ on the "I have an error while launching MT4": http://www.tickstory.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=613.
It has a check-list of common issues when trying to launch. The only thing to add to this is to make sure you have got "/skipupdate" in your launcher parameters (File->Settings->MT4 Settings). If you don't do this, MT4 will automatically update again to the latest build.

Thank you issue was solved by :

3) If you are using Windows 7 or are receiving a prompt for administrator access when you launch, run Tickstory as Administrator by right-clicking the icon and selecting "Run As Administrator".

Not sure if there is a log file that TIckstory writes out but would be usefull to write out some errors to a log to make troubleshooting easier ?
