MT5: Tickstory data vs Broker data on created custom symbol

Hi Tickstory,

so i have created custom symbol and imported tickstory data to it, now my question does this mean this created custom symbol will only use tickstory data on all modeling of test or it will use it only on real ticks?

what i want is to use only tickstory data for this created symbol on all modeling of test to save time by conduct backtest on fast modeling like open price or 1 minute ohlc or every tick then confirm results by real ticks. but will fast models use broker data if yes how to disable that and use only tickstory data?

Hi Tickwaiting,

Your custom symbol populated with Tickstory data will use "real ticks" when selected in the Strategy Tester. When you select the custom symbol in the Strategy Tester you will always be using the Tickstory data you imported. To use the broker data, select the appropriate symbol from the selection tree.

thats good news to hear, just need your confirmation so if i use custom symbol and run different models like open price 1minute high low and every tick will they all use the same tickstory data as the real tick model?

Hi Tickwaiting,

Our understanding from the MT5 manual is that if you create a custom symbol and then populate the data for that symbol, you will only use that data when testing.
