Optimisation runs

Post by ekke »

With the new event of Tickstory v 1.0 I cannot use the optimisation features of the MT4 Tester anymore. Just get a flatline at zero for all iterations. Has anybody experienced this this? I tried different versions of MT4, no luck. Everything else works normal. If anybody has an answer for this strange behaviour, I'll appreciate it.

Hi Ekke,

Are you saying that the previous version of Tickstory (0.9.2) was working fine for you? There have been no recent changes that should affect MT4 back-testing - are you sure you haven't upgraded or something else has changed?. If the previous version of Tickstory was working, can you try rolling-back and seeing if that fixes it?

Thanks.

Hi. Thanks for the quick reply. I rolled back to version 0.9b and get the same results . All optimisation cycles come out at zero.
I am using MT4 4.00 build 432 (the one you made available). I am totally baffled. Only change was a recent update of the Tick Data.
I have tried different versions and builds of MT4, same result. Any ideas ????

thanks

Hi Ekke,

Does a normal back-test give you any results?

Thanks.

Hi ekke,

We've tried several optimisation runs with a standard EA and can't reproduce the issue you are having. Do you still see this problem with the standard EAs? Can you please also check that no changes were made to your EA between upgrading these builds?

We would love to know if anyone else is experiencing the same issue so that we can try to establish a pattern for this issue.

Hi
I am still fighting with the problem of not being able to use the optimiser.
All works well when I change the run parameters one by one.
I am currently using Tickstory Lite v. 1.5.1.0 and MT4 build 745.

The EA works successfully on a live account, just has a lot of parameters which I change on a weekly base
back testing with latest tick data which is rather tedious.
Other, somewhat simpler EA's run fine on optimising.
Are there any known cases of an EA being to complicated for optimisation runs?

Any enlightenment will be welcome.
Lastly, thank you for all the effort you put into Tickstory. I cannot do without it.

cheers

Hi Ekke,

Unfortunately all we can offer is a few trouble-shooting suggestions such as checking MT4 vital signs (CPU, memory) while performing the optimisation run. Perhaps the system is running out of resources or the EA is hanging in certain circumstances? Try a simple EA and getting that working first and then introduce optimisation for your EA while only incrementing 1 or 2 parameters at a time and seeing how far you can automate things before it no longer works.

Hopefully some other users may be able to share some experiences with you on how to resolve this.

Regards.

Hi ekke,

if other EA's run fine then you should search within your EA for the error.
Maybe you have some older versions of your own ea to test if a new feature you programmed recently caused the error.

How many parameters do you try to optimise at once? try with one parameter only at first, then if it works you can add more.

Hi
Thank you all for the input, but I had already tried everything you suggest. To no avail.
I am running WIN7 64 with 8 GB of Memory, so I cannot see that to be the problem.
It doesn't matter how many parameters I try to optimise, the result is always the same, a fat Zero.
I will tackle the problem at some later stage.
