Tick Data Suite or Tickstory

Post by Antonov-EA »

Hi, i am now on the point where i have to choose beetween the softwares.
The Tickdata Suite from Birt costs 99 $ and every month 10 $ and provide me 99% backtest quality
The Tickstory costs only 23 $ and provide 99 % backtest quality, too.

are there really the same results when i would test with both softwares?
And can i test in Tickstory files that are bigger then 4 GB?
Do Tickstory use FXT format ?

Thanks for the answers.

Hi Antonov,

As far as we see it, Tickstory and TDS are quite complimentary. Tickstory provides both the export and launcher features in one convenient bundle and is all you need to get up-and-running with 99% back-testing. TDS then enhances your capabilities by allowing you to back-test with variable spreads and slippage (more features are mentioned here: http://tickstory.com/product/birts-tick-data-suite/).

To further differentiate, Tickstory is being developed as a all-in-one data management tool, so we are working towards providing various other updates to enhance the way you acquire (eg. new datasources) and manage (eg. new filters, modelling methods like renko, etc) the data you use for back-testing.

Regarding the 4GB limitation, Tickstory does not do anything specific to override this limitation, however many users are using Tickstory for 5+ year back-tests. Of course, there is also a free version (http://tickstory.com/product/tickstory-lite/) which allows you to see if it meets your requirements before committing to a purchase.

Hope this helps.

ok, i cant test the backtest function of the lite version, because it do not suport the mt4 build. i dont have old builds.
So again the question, when i have downloaded the historical data from ducascopy and i make the export to mt4, then it will be exported as hst for the use with tickstory?
because if as hst, then there is nor problem with the 4 gb files, i know on tickdata suite the files from 2010 - 2015 are bigger then 4 gb.
And does the tickstory use "Embed tick volume" on testing, i mean does it effect if with or without this feature?

Hi Antonov,

Hopefully I have understood your question correctly - yes, Tickstory will automatically download data from Dukascopy and export it as a HST + FXT file that is immediately useable in Metatrader.

The registered version of Tickstory also supports the embedding of variable spread information, although do note that you will need to use the TDS launcher to make this work.

Hope this helps.
